How to Keep Kids Learning and Active Over the Summer

If you are having anxiety about the time your kids will have out of school, then it is best to start planning early. You can probably start looking into summer activities as early as spring break. Talk with your kids or their friends’ parents. See if they’ve heard about anything. They may be more inclined to get involved in a summer activity if their friends are going to participate as well. The main thing to do is to keep the kids engaged in something that will provide them with a memorable, fun, learning experience. Things that can keep kids learning and active over the summer include summer school, summer camp, and summer vacations. Any of these plans can give you a worry free and headache free summer.

Summer School

I hated summer school. It felt as if my summer was being taken away from me, but the times I did go to summer school, my days at school didn’t seem that long, in fact, it helped keep me occupied until it was time to go home. Summer school kept me in the routine of studying and it kept me in the groove of having homework. Summer school means we never have to really break the late bedtime habit, because we’ve still been getting the right amount of sleep each night.

Summer Camp

I’ve been to summer camp and bible camp over the summer. Both experiences were times when we’d learn, and we would also have time to do fun group activities. I remember a lot of the people I met during summer camp and I remember the games and activities we did. I remember the learning field trips and even the food. This was many years ago, I’m not sure if there is still a way to get so much packed in for free these days, but if you find it go for it. Summer camp is a great way to get your kids to enjoy the summer and also learn something. When it was time for me to enjoy summer, my parents look into a summer camp for kids west valley ut.

Summer Vacations

Just because you’re on a fun family trip doesn’t mean teachable moments can’t occur for the kids. They can learn about the new place you’re visiting, whether it’s the mountains, camping, or just a new town. There is history to know about, signs to read and pictures to take. If you’re going into a tourist area, this is a great opportunity for everyone to learn something and have fun at the same time.

Knowing that summertime is approaching can be stressful if you don’t have an idea of what you want to do with your kids. There are several options that don’t involve sitting home and watching TV all summer. If you want to make that choice, that’s ok as well. If you want your kids to be active and learn something then some of your options may include summer school, summer camp, and summer vacation. Let your kids have a memorable summer, and always look forward to learning something new, because it doesn’t have to be a boring experience.
